SAFE AND SOUND TEMP TOOTH FILLING

Safe and Sound Temporary Tooth Filling is a handy fix for a missing or lost filling when you can’t get a dentist appointment straight away. It’s a zinc oxide based material, and one pack gives enough for around 10 fillings.

It’s worth knowing it isn’t an adhesive, so it won’t bond to the tooth surface itself. Instead, the cavity needs enough of an undercut for the material to key into place and hold there once it’s hardened. It’s best not to overfill the cavity either, as that can create a high point which puts extra pressure on the filling during chewing and may cause it to crumble.

To use, simply mould the material and press it gently into the cavity, then close the jaws comfortably for around 15 minutes to let it harden properly, avoiding excess saliva or touching it with the tongue in that time. In colder conditions, the material can harden inside the tube, so it helps to warm it in the hand first to soften it up before use.

This is a short-term fix only and isn’t meant to last more than 28 days in the mouth. It shouldn’t be relied on for very large or particularly painful fillings, and proper dental advice should still be sought as soon as possible.
